  • 05/26/2012 - Bowmanville Kinsmen Lobsterfest 2012!

    Back from the east coast for 2012, it's the Bowmanville Kinsmen Club's locally legendary Lobsterfest!

    On Saturday May 26 The Bowmanville Kinsmen Club will be hosting the community at Newcastle Town Hall.  Doors open at 6:30pm, fresh cooked lobster dinner is served at 7pm, (roast beef is alternately available).  Trimmings are included.  A DJ will be entertaining the crowd during dinner, and taking requests for your favorite dancin' tunes after dinner.  A cash bar will be open for the entire event.

    As is tradition, an oversized lobster will be raffled off for one lucky winner to take home with them.

    Tickets are $50 per person.  They usually sell out in early May so get your tickets ASAP by e-mailing bowmanvillekinsmen@gmail.com.

    The Kinsmen club of Bowmanville has been 'Serving the community's greatest need' since 1950.  Kin Canada, (www.kincanada.ca) has a 30+ year relationship supporting Cystic Fibrosis Canada, and a 90+ year history as an all-Canadian service organization.

    Are you a fan of Gisele’s Big Backyard!?

    Gisele will be visiting libraries across Ontario promoting her monthly book club, featured on her TVOKids’ show Gisele’s Big Backyard.

    Children are invited to a special storytime with Gisele as she reads from her book of the month. She will be available after the storytime for a meet and greet autograph session with her fans! The first 100 children in attendance will also receive a complimentary book, book bag, and bookmark.

    See how the alpaca fibre is harvested, carding, spinning and weaving demonstrations, tour the vendors area, visit with some special guests from Nova's Ark, get some retail therapy from The Alpaca Store.

    We love animals, but please keep your pets at home.

    Admission is by donation and ALL the Proceeds go towards Hearth Place Cancer Support Centre in Oshawa...cause cancer is just a word until it happens to you.

  • 05/26/2012 - Community Care Durham’s 7th Annual Walk for Mental Health

    Join Community Care Durham as we “Walk for Mental Health”.  This fundraising event takes place on May 26, beginning at 9 a.m. with registration and a chance to receive a gift bag and official event t-shirt.  Walk 1 km., 2 km. or 5 km. along the Waterfront Trail at Heydenshore Park in Whitby.  After the walk, enjoy a BBQ lunch courtesy of Enbridge Gas.  There’s tons of family fun for everyone to enjoy, including children’s activities, music, entertainment and amazing draw prizes.  A Resource and Information Tent will have display booths from community groups who will share information about their services.  The Walk for Mental Health not only serves as a fundraiser for all Community Care Durham sites, but also raises awareness of mental health issues in our community.  Show your support and “Walk for Mental Health”.  For information, please call 905-985-0150, ext. 237, or visit www.ccdwalk.org.
